Sofia: Two visions, brother and sister

Brother and sister, much more different then they look like - present their views of their home city Sofia. Contrast is a key word for this project, but the way a city looks - beautiful and ugly, new and old, colourful and bleak, is just one aspect of the exhibition. Kiril and Margarita show two contrasting views of artistic value. Are Margarita’s photographs an embodiment of her devotion to the beautiful, or a desire for realism going back to the roots of representational photography? Do Kiril’s ‘edited’ city landscapes show his resistance to see the objects as they are, or are they an expression of his creativity?

What is more beautiful in a city - the chaos or the harmony, the old or the new? Aesthetic value and realism – are these two opposing concepts in contemporary photography?
